Japan on 15m

This morning I worked Kei, JI1BBN, on 15m PSK31 using 50W to the MFJ magnetic loop in the attic.

I heard several other DX stations on both the loop and the dipole, including DU3MEL in the Philippines whom I last worked in 2003, also on 15m. That was also the last time I worked Japan. Then I would only have been using QRP with my Elecraft K3, and the antenna would have been a horizontal loop of wire round the perimeter of the attic, with a 4:1 balun at the centre of one side, tuned using the K2 internal ATU.

What's that about stealth antennas not working?

Good morning Julian, hearing the contacts done with your attic antenna gives me a positive outlook for my attic QRP setup.

Congrats Julian, a very nice contact. I was on 15m as well, monitoring most of the time. Made only one QSO with Asiatic Russia. I saw 4 different Japanese stations, but not the one you made a QSO with. Also saw DU3MEL.

Good 17m opening with lots of Japanese stations today.
Funny thing is 20m was pitiful, but 17m was hopping with strong signals, go figure.
It seems 17m is very under-appreciated, as when its open, its a copper wire to DX.

...hmm. You last worked Japan in 2003. Not the most inspiring performance perhaps?

Actually Richard I think it has more to do with having more important things to do most of the time than spend a lot of time on the radio.
