JT9-1 with 1W

I see that some bloggers have complained that HF propagation today was not too good. My 5W JT9-1 signal on 20m was spotted several times at reasonable strength by VK3AMA so this afternoon I thought I would see how far I could get with 1 watt.

Reception of JT9-1 signal from G4ILO using 1W to attic dipole
Well, my 1 watt signal didn't make it as far as VK but the map above shows how far it did get in little over an hour's operating. I called CQ continually except when my QRPp was answered by calls from RV9WF, R9WJ and S51AY. I'm pretty pleased with that. This JT9 is shaping up to be one heck of a digimode!

Well done Julian!
Have just had my 10w to a very poor antenna heard in VK, so like you, i am really impressed with the mode!

Good stuff Julian. HAven't (yet) tried the mode on HF but had a couple of QSOs with it on 472kHz with low ERP.

Like you Julian and Mike, I too am very impressed. The software too is now increasingly user friendly in the way of the JT65 software. I think we shall see it become much more popular very quickly.

So I was impressed too. Before I read this, 5Watts into my magnetic loop made on my first floor (indoor) made it around the world including VK3AMA today. Antena design is based on Julian's wonder loop.

Shall try 1W JT9-1 next.
