First HF Opera QSO

Yes. Opera now has a QSO mode. I had to update KComm to allow the Opera contact to be logged, so I thought I'd add ROS for good measure. You never know. :)

eQSL still won't accept the mode "Opera" as it hasn't yet been added to the ADIF specification. It remains to be seen whether the mode catches on. It's an obvious rival to JT65A but the JT mode has a lot more users. Opera is not time-synchronous and allows a bit more free-text flexibility.

By the way, have any of you Blogger users noticed that you can't insert GIF images into blog posts any more? When I try, I just get an empty box. I have to save all my images as JPG which is not a very efficient format for screenshots.

Hi Julian.

Have you tried the PNG format? It's very effective for screenshots and still highly compressed.

Yes, I'm just an old fossil who has been using GIF since the days of CompuServe 25 years ago. I didn't think of PNG but it's the obvious alternative. Still don't know why GIFs stopped working in Blogger though.

Haven't run into the GIF problem, but it's not a format I use often. Every time I get on Blogger I expect one surprise or another. It's very unstable. Features that worked one day don't the next or disappear. Still, overall it does seem to get better bit by bit.

Still to re-try Opera as I had horrendous issues with CPU load. BTW, I uploaded a .GIF file to my blog site today without issues.

I think Opera has been made a bit more efficient since you first tried it, Roger, but all of these weak signal modes do a lot of computation and tend to be CPU hogs.
