You can get a higher capacity battery pack which you will need to run all day with the GPS enabled.

The Kenwood is bigger and not as tough but it is an all-round better performer. The standard battery doesn't last long with APRS enabled.

Julian, G4ILOAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11984840704237681015noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-953397841255562532.post-57644844705438122262013-04-19T19:58:07.295+01:002013-04-19T19:58:07.295+01:00Thanks for all your info.

Both the G4HFQ and RT Systems software let you edit, as well as backup/restore, the full set of radio settings.rcthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02648054881692406479noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-953397841255562532.post-22194620774164908012010-12-18T21:13:10.938+00:002010-12-18T21:13:10.938+00:00I completely agree with the VX-8 gps, it is hopele...I completely agree with the VX-8 gps, it is hopelessly slow and the antenna seems to be a bit of weak link as it can easily drop out in a car.

Trouble is I've found the VX-8 to be a great handheld and I'm very happy with mine. Like HDR said there is no one best, although if Yaesu could fix the gps then they'd have my voteAlex Hillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09985363196485318644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-953397841255562532.post-71669656784258589892010-12-14T05:31:13.612+00:002010-12-14T05:31:13.612+00:00It's always nice to see comparisons and hear f...It's always nice to see comparisons and hear from someone who has and is using both radios. Being 6'4", I'm one who looks for big rather than small. If it's too small, I find that even my little finger is some times too big to operate the unit. While I have a thing for Yaesu, I just might get back on the air with a Kenwood Handheld. It just goes to show there is no "best one" of anything - otherwise everyone would buy that and the rest of the manufacturers would go bust...

If you decide to keep the Yaesu, I'd like first dibs on the '72! :-)

Cheers, HowardHDRWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09148633895717850549noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-953397841255562532.post-47813652126676760702010-12-13T22:22:10.126+00:002010-12-13T22:22:10.126+00:00Very nice review Julian. Hope Kenwood gets that firmware bug resolved but it sound like this is a nice radio especially with the fast indoor acquisition time and the full duplex operation. Nice radio and will be watching your blog for further adventures and reports of this new kit.Bob VE3MPGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03416808068163680683noreply@blogger.com
