Snow falls, continent isolated

A bit of snow in the south east has apparently caused electrical failures on the railway line through the Channel Tunnel. Services have been suspended until further notice. Many airports are also closed and flights grounded due to snow on the runways. Bad news for anyone hoping to leave the UK for Christmas.

Every winter we have snow and ice. It's cold, it's wet and it freezes. Any child knows that. Yet in Britain we still don't seem to have learned how to design transport systems that can cope with it.

Hello Julian, with the Dutch trains the same here. Why do have Scandinavian trains no troubles with winter? 73 Paul

In the North of PA:
- no trains
- no buses
- no taxi's

The SWR on my SteppIR changes all the time, have to 'shake off' the snow from the beam :-))

My YL's son's fiancee was excpected to arrive via the tunnel. Naturally no idea when, now.

Driving to New York again tomorrow morning but the roads are finally clear and no snow predicted between here and there....

Yesterday the ENTIRE WV Turnpike was shut down. Some people sat for 20 hours without moving an inch.

I'll be taking sleeping bags and a little food and water....just in case.

Hope things thaw out there in your place soon.
